Today we had our Cellular Biology unit test.  I must say that I am very concerned about the lack of attendance in last night's class.  You can not get the credit for this course if you do not demonstrate an understanding of the material.

If you missed tonight's class, please read over sections on Viruses and Bacteria in your text.

Notes will be posted this weekend.

Tuesday's Presentation

To answer a few questions:

A piece of paper or cue cards during the presentation are fine.  The gist is that I want you to be able to present your information, not just stand up front and read from a paper.  I understand that the information and standing in front of the class may be overwhelming and that is why cue cards or a paper may be used as a reference point.

If you are doing a slideshow/power point/any thing electronic, just email me a copy or I can copy from your USB on Tuesday.  I don't need an actual copy of your presentation notes if you are in fact presenting.  The people who have chosen not to present need to provide me with a dialogue that they would have used if they were presenting.

Study Tips

The key to learning any new language is practice.  Look at similar words and recognize patterns in the roots of the word. For example, "bio" (means life) and "logy" (means study of), you can now determine that geology must be the study of "geo".  (see page 482 of your text)

Also, try creating flash cards for yourself, one side would have the term and the other would have the definition/description.  Don't just test yourself, it is important that you verbalize the information as well.  The best way to learn is by teaching someone else.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of reviewing your notes/resources on a regular basis not just before a test or exam.
